Freight rail services suspended on Bell Bay, Western and Melba lines

TasRail has now suspended freight rail operations on the Bell Bay Line of the Tasmanian Rail Network until further notice.

This follows the suspension of freight services on the Melba and Western lines earlier today.

TasRail’s CEO Steven Dietrich said that the business’s priority continued to be the safety of its staff and on-going monitoring of operational rail infrastructure.

“TasRail will continue to safely monitor the situation, keenly aware of the impact that the 2016 flood on our network and surrounding communities,” he said.

Mr Dietrich said that TasRail had communicated the decision directly with its customers who were supportive of the decision.

“We will continue to re-evaluate the entire network as the weather event unfolds and circumstances change.”
